Question 1998 Accord Door Lock Actuator replacement

Hello all, I was hoping someone has done this or knows how. For quite some time my Front Driver door along with my passenger rear right door wont lock either with the key pad or interior button on the door its self. The only way the drivers door will lock is to press it down. The rear right passenger door will open if you hit the button several times (its like its getting stuck coming up) but has the same issue going down and most of the time it wont lock. The front passenger lock works fine both along with the rear left lock. I was told that it was the door lock actuator that is bad, either that or a spring. Now im sure a spring is alot less expensive then a electrical part.
Does anyone have a video link or a break down how to tackle these to locks and if there is a way to trouble shoot the problem before taking the doors off etc.. or order the parts?

You can test the actuator by applying direct 12 volt battery power (+) and ground (-) to the 2 pin terminals on the actuator. See this link regarding testing the actuator. (Your problem with the rear may be the switch or a weak motor inside the actuator. An actuator is essentially just a motor with gears.) Note: You can buy and replace just the actuator if it is bad, and not the latch (the following link states to replace latch, which is unnecessary and more $ and harder).

This link has excerpts from the service manual to remove the door panel, etc. It doesn't have specific instructions for removal of the front actuator, only the rear actuator.

I've attached some picture with notes on testing the actuator and replacement of actuator. (Note: the attached pics. are related to the front actuator removal.)

Hi guys,

I've been having the same issue. I'm brand new to this forum. Lots of useful information. After doing some research, I purchased an actuator and replaced it. My problem is still not 'fully' fixed. Here's the info:

1998 Honda Accord Coupe EX V6

Symptoms before replacing door actuator:

- Started when my keyless entry stopped emitting the horn sound when locking. (not sure if it's related)
- A few weeks later, I'm unable unlock or lock from my remote
- Unable to lock or unlock with interior switches on both sides
- locks make a clicking noise, but door lock rods do not actually move when locking or unlocking with remote and interior controls

Symptoms after replacing driver side actuator:

- Driver side rod actually locks with both sides of interio
r controls and remote, (still does not UNLOCK with either interior or remote)
- When using the remote to UNLOCK, the driver side rod moves up half way
- locks make a clicking noise, but door lock rods do not actually move when locking or unlocking with remote and interior controls

My question is: Do you guys actually think both actuators should be replaced? I only replaced the driver side. Do I need to replace the interior controls? I read somewhere else on of the threads that someone had a similar issue and removed the relay controlling it and it fixed the issue, as the computer might of been confused and needed to be reset.

Any insights?

thanks!
