1999 - Broken Dash Part Identificiation
I took my car in (1999 Honda Accord LX) and got the Transmission replaced. They managed to crack my underside of my dash (which they have agreed to replace). They also broke a random piece of the dash off. I have attached a picture of it.
They claim that while they don't know where it goes or what it did or covered, it's not important so they aren't doing anything about it unless I can figure out where it went (b/c they don't want to take time to figure it out). How they can know it's "Not important" when they don't know where it went or what it covered is beyond me. They don't just put things like that on a car for no reason. No discount for damaging my car either.
I can't take any more pictures as they conveniently "lost" the part after I handed it to them yesterday. (The tranny job wasn't done well so there were problems they had to address and fix overnight)
This COULD have been related, but the car wasn't registering it was in "park" yesterday making the key almost impossible to take out of the ignition. They said they fixed it and returned the car to me today.
So does anyone recognize where this goes? As you can see it has a "2" clearly visible on it. Under my finger is a screw hole. The breakage is along the left hand side of the part.
Thank you for any ideas or identifying the part. So mad right now at this shop.

I looked at a few interiors on 99 accords and the tan color is different in different parts of the car. If you find the piece, then try to match the color?
Where was the damaged lower part of the dash at? I suspect the piece in the picture is under the black plastic for the gear selector or maybe part of the plastic near the radio. They had to be in that area when replacing the transmission. I can't think of any other reason to be tearing apart the interior of the car on a transmission replacement.

At this point, it's unlikely I will ever see the piece again b/c I gave it to the transmission shop and they lost it in a 24 hour period. Then the guy tried to tell me it was just a small tab I gave him at which point I pulled up this photo and said no...no it wasn't a small tab.
Thanks. I'll take a look tomorrow or the next day. Still just super pissed at how the owner acted.
