Default RE: 1999 European questions

Dont really have the time or skill to break a car fully. But I wont have much choice if I dont find something soon...
Trying my best to find a new body or similar car with engine problems.

Just out of interest then, I have Honda engine numbers for the 1.8 and 2.0. Does anyone know if I can chop and change drivetrain parts for the 2.0vtec f20b6 engine and the 1.8vtec f18b2.

If its possible to do this, it opens up my options a lot.
If I cant find something soon, Ill end up with the ****tiest car ever...

Also, do you think it would be worth getting a really cheap shell or car with f*ed up interior and changing it for the full leather in mine? Or just find another leather?

Thanks again guys.

-T

edit: the two engines have extremely similar figures. the larger engine just puts out 25 more HP and 15 or so NM of torque.

A lot of the parts in the F family will mate to each other, so I think youre in good shape. In fact, the 2.0L should just drop into where the 1.8L was. Of course youd need the 2.0s ECU and other stuff, but it seems very doable.

All of this is speculation though, since we dont have get the same bodies and engines over here. But, following patterns in Hondas... it should work.

I have found that the gearbox parts have different codes (suggesting different gearboxes = not interchangable?)
Here is what more research has thrown up:

Gearbox:
1.8 = u2L4
2.0 = u2J4

Clutch:
Found replacement clutch that claims to fit only 1.8 and 2.0

That is really the most important parts. I dont really know what to make of this. What do you reckon?

Even though the trannies have differnet codes, they should still mate up to the other engine.

For example, all H-series transmissions will bolt up to all F-series blocks except the F20C and F22C... its the same with the smaller B- and D-series for the Civic/Integra

I think Ill give it a go... otherwise Ill prob end up in a nissan sunny or something equally ****ty.

If I were to attempt it with an auto car, I assume it would be possible, but gearbox and clutch would need replacing, no?

Yep... youd have to remove the AT, but the MT should bolt right up. Youd need to use a lot of MT parts off the other car, but its possible.

Auto tranny is computer-controlled, so thenyou need a computer thats not only for your 2.0 engine, but from an automatic car with that engine.

Manual tranny makes things easier.
