2000 accord brakes
hi. Had some minor maintenance done at the local Firestone recently. They pointed to my car's rear brakes and said I had better get new rotors and pads very soon, that the rear rotors are "throw-aways" and can't be turned, and rear brakes require special calipers that are very expensive (about $350), and if I didn't hurry and get the work done. I need 2 new calipewrs. No problems or noise from the brakes, front or rear. I declined the rear brakes for now. Was I getting a line of BS or was it legit? Thanks. The rear pads were about 5mm so they will need replacement soon, I agree with that much.

I've had rear rotors resurfaced on our 98 Accord, so they are not throw-aways. But its all about how they are against the minimum allowable thickness. If Firestone actually measured their thickness, maybe they're right.
OTOH, maybe it's a cost/benefit thing. Sometimes you can find new rotors for not much more money than resurfacing the old ones.
If you wait until the pads wear down to the backing plates, then you WILL be doing a more expensive job.
