2000 Accord Speedometer Failure
My 2000 Accord V6 speedometer dropped dead a few weeks ago and it's time to start trying to trouble shoot it.
Does it use a cable or is it be electronic ?
Any/all suggestions as to what would be the best approach to start trying to fix it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

RE: 2000 Accord Speedometer Failure
Im not sure if the speedometer would fail while the odometer works properly. The 2000 properly has a different setup than my old 95.
Is the check engine light or the D4 light on? You should stop by AutoZone and have them read the codes for free and post them on here.

yeah, if cruise works then the gauge assembly is shot. it's cool too..the gauge uses a micro control on your car to send the signal to the speedometer and odometer. if that signal wire was cut you'd have lost both odometer and speedo operation. however, if the circuit board is shot in such a way where the signal is interrupted before it hits the speedo but still makes it to the odometer, a new speedo gauge may not fix it.
most likely it's just the guage though. i'm pretty sure you can buy a replacement gauge and don't need the entire cluster. call the dealer!

OK the cruise control is dead along with the speedometer needle;only the trip odometer seems to work.
So now what do I need to do/get to get everything back up and running again? and where do I look on the car?...
Thanks for all...

RE: 2000 Accord Speedometer Failure
bit of confusion here. trying to find a VSS vehicle speed sensor onlline and all I found are left and right ABS Speed Sensors.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord V6 (3.0 liter).
could it be that the left and/or right ABS speed sensorssend signals to the speedometer and cruise control???
or is there another part that I just can't find on this particular car??

RE: 2000 Accord Speedometer Failure
actually it's a calculated speed from the pcm i believe. no speed sensor. the pcm gets it's signal from the countershaft speed sensor. the cruise control runs off a different signal. i find it hard to believe the countershaft speed sensor went bad and didn't set a trouble code.
inspect the wiring for any damage or a loose connector
check connector B of the gauge assembly
there are 3 connecters connecting to the gauge assembly. each have a different pin count. find the 22 pin connector and carefully inspect b2 terminal or damage, wear, burn marks or looseness.
check the ground on the thermostat housing.
check for any trouble codes. autozone might not be able to read A/T trouble codes if there is one set.
if everything is ok replace the speedometer.
