Default 2000 Accord V6 timing belt replacement

Last week, our 2000 Accord's tranny bit the big one. Since we have 99,600 miles on it, I couldn't be more pleased with the timing (covered under warranty). I've consistantly received poor service and even felt like they were trying to charge me for extra work, at the dealer we purchased the car from new. So, I tried another dealer for the tranny. So far, so good with the new dealer (Rossi Honda Vineland, NJ) . They did the tranny, and informed me that the battery was cracked and leaking due to the "J" hooks that hold the battery in place were put in backwards. Here's the question. My first dealer did the timing belt job about a month or so ago. During the timing belt replacement, does the battery have to be removed, not just disconnected? If yes, then the selling dealer trashed the battery. If not I did it about a year ago when I replaced the battery (unlikely, but certaintly possible). Thanks, srt

I can't remember ever unhooking a battery to do a T-belt. Why would you?
Change the trans fluid in your new trans about every 15-20k miles, and it should last longer.
