2000 EX 4 cyl. clutch master cylinder
I have noticed over the past two or three days that the peddle was soft, but the car still shifted fine. This morning I had a problem getting the car into first gear. I checked the fluid level and didn't see any fluid. Filled the reservoir and the clutch works fine. I'm going to keep an eye on the level over the next few days to see if it goes down again.
Two questions:
A) If it does go down again is there an additive I can use to seal the system?
B) If I do have the replace the clutch cylinder, how difficult is it?

A) NO !
B) Need to know/find out if it is the slave or master that is leaking. Prob the hardest part is going to bleed the system....which even if the level stays, you might want to think about bleeding it.

IMHO - a speed bleeder for the slave cyl on these is the way to go.....but that is my opinion. There is a big warning in the manuals not to over tighten the bleeder, it can crack. So if you are are going to flush/bleed the system.....my .02.
Have you changed the fluid in the tranny?

The tranny fluid is changed every 60K miles according to the manual. I have done it twice. All other fluids have been changed, but since the clutch is not listed, or least I am not aware of it being listed, I never did it. It's certainly about time. I always consider myself performing timely preventative maintenance, but on this one, I dropped the ball.

I bought a Mityvac pump. I'm going to bleed the clutch tomorrow. The bleeder on the 2000 Honda EX is on top of the slave unit near the hydraulic line. I'll pull the rubber nipple off the bleeder and use a box end wrench to crack open the valve. I'll also remove the cap on the master cylinder and refill as the fluid level drops. Should be a "piece of cake." I'm going to use Prestone synthetic brake fluid DOT 3.
Q1) Is this ok or should I purchase the Honda fluid?

There was a recall on the original plastic clutch master and slave cylinder.
