All the Honda/Acura ABS installations I've seen label the ABS box. It's usually near the ABS modulator. On 95-98 Acura TL it's right along side the modulator.

A Honda shop manual for your model is $60, and will have all the answers.

good luck

I found a 1998 Accord Service Manual and I'm guessing that most of the diagrams here are the same for the 2001s since they are the same generation (Gen 6). By looking at all the diagrams for the ABS, it doesn't seem that there is a relay for the ABS. Attached is a screenshot of the troubleshooting steps for error code 53. An ABS relay was not specified at all in this troubleshooting steps or in any of the diagrams. The first step is to try to clear the ABS code and see if it comes back. So far I have tried to clear it by turning the key to on/off position 20x and then driving it. I have also tried to remove the ABS fuses for a few minutes and that didn't work either. I'm going to try to remove the ABS fuses for a few hours to see if that even helps. Does anyone have any other suggestions for clearing the ABS light? If not, I'm guessing that I have to go to the next step of checking the grounding wire. And if that is all good, I guess I will have to purchase a replacement modulator/pump. I'm hoping that someone else here can provide another suggestion of clearing the ABS light. Thanks in advance.

BTW, I tested the 2 relays that was in the small box next the the under-hood fuse box and they both seemed good. I was only getting a reading on 2 of the contacts which I assumed was the drive coil, and the other 2 was not shorted. That was the same reading for both. On the relays, the brand is Mitsuba. On the smaller one, it has RC 5001, 12V NO, OOH stamped on it. The larger metallic one, it only has 12V NO, OMH stamped on it. I'm still not sure if these are for the ABS pump since it was not depicted on the service manual diagram.

Update: I googled the RC-5001 relay and it seems that it is for the Air Conditioning system. I'm still not sure what the other one is for, but I am guessing that it is not for the ABS system.

ABS systems reset every time they are turned on/off. If ABS light stays on the fault is still present, or you have a faulty ABS controller. I don't see how an ABS system could get by w/o a power relay. This is how the controller disables the ABS if a fault is detected.

good luck

I found ABS electrical diagram for 2001 Accord (4-cyl) at autozone.com. Unfortunately, it only shows electrical inputs and sensor inputs, no outputs! Not sure what to make of the diagram. I still suspect there would be a power relay to couple the abs pump to power w/ ground of relay controlled by ABS controller. If you want the diagram you can go to autozone.com and find it or, I will email if you'll pm your email address.

good luck

Thank you TexasHonda and everyone else that provided some input to my ABS issue. I believe I may have found the solution to my ABS troubles. If you remember in one of my pictures, I had a digital ballast for my HID headlights, which I installed approximately 2 weeks prior to the ABS light turning on. It was right next to the ABS pump/modulator. See the attached picture. So I was thinking that is it possible the ballast may have caused some kind of interference with the pump causing the error to appear? So I decided to move the ballast over to the front where the power steering fluid reservoir is located. I also moved the cabling that was attached to the brake lines, just in case. During this entire process, I also removed all of the fuses that are related to the ABS system. 2 in the under-hood fuse box and 1 in the passenger side fuse box. After the move was completed, I switch the key to the on/off position 20+ times (I did about 30, just to be sure). I then started the ignition. Initially, the ABS light remained on. I then drove the vehicle to approximately 20 mph, and sure enough, the ABS light turned off.

I’m not 100% sure if the ballast had anything to do with the ABS error. Perhaps the ballast was causing some kind of electro-magnetic field which may interfere with the normal operation of the ABS modulator. Or it could also be a momentary clearing of the ABS light, since I basically combined the 2 instructions I found online to clear the codes. It just happened about 30 minutes ago, and I only drove the car about ¼ miles around the block. I just thought I would post this in case someone else has a similar issue with their ABS. I will add to this thread if the ABS light returns. Thanks again everyone for all of your assistance.
