Default 2001 Accord Manual Question

hey i am new to driving standard and this might not even be a problem but here goes. its a 2001 accord.

Say im on 4th gear and like 50km/h, then i smash the accelerator all the way down. The car doesnt speed up fast it just goes normally up as if i was pressing it lightly.

Ialways hear people say manual are faster if you know how to drive it but i dont see anyway i can beat a automatic when the car wont speed up fast.

I had the same car but automatic and i see a huge difference when i smash the pedal on both. Maybe i just suck at manual since i only been driving it a week. I wont be offended if you guys say i donno how to drive it.

For a Honda, in general, a manual transmission can accelerate faster. It depends on the gear and power band you're in. Next time, under similar circumstances, downshift to the next lower gear (e.g. 3rd gear) first.

With a manual transmission, you can select the gear you want and hold rpms as high or as low as you want before shifting.

Yes, you need to downshift.

Cruising in 5th gear and you want to accelerate. Shift down to 4th then accelerate. Or even shift down to 3rd if you want even more acceleration. After all, that's what the automatic transmission does when you mash the gas pedal.

Shifting near redline is not necessarily the best point to shift. You want to shift where the car is still reving strong and begins to tail off. No point in staying in a gear til redline. Most people who shift manually know where the uptimum shift point is by the sound of the engine.

In most street cars shifting "near" the redline gives you the best acceleration. Also gives you the fastest wear on the engine, and earns you the most attention from the guys with blue flashing lights on their car.

But on a highway entrance, try shifting at higher & higher RPM to get a feel for it. It's not real tricky, you'll get the idea.
