2001 Accord - remote lock
I just took out the factory 6Disc player and replaced with a new head unit. All seemed to go fine, as the new radio and everything is working; but, I noticed my remote doesn't lock or unlock the doors anymore. I can lock/unlock fine manually. Any ideas on what might have happened or where to look? I'm not sure if the whole security system is disabled or what.

there is a security input to the multiplex through the radio. simply ground the blue wire of the 20 pin audio unit connector and try it. (to ground the wires means to cut that wire and bolt it to a metal surface under the dash) if it still doesn't work, you may have to reprogram the remote now.
the procedure is simple -
all doors and trunk/hood must be closed.
put the key in the ign. switch.
turn the key to the ON position(dash lights illuminate but don't start the car).
press the lock button.
turn the key off.
turn the key on, press the lock button.
turn the key off.
turn the key on, press the lock button.
turn the key off.
turn the key on, press the lock button. the door locks cycle. that signifies programming mode. press the lock button again to program that remote. press the lock button once on each addition remote to program them. turn the key off and test it(or them).
NOTE: You must do the procedure to get to programming mode in about 5 seconds.
if your too slow you won't enter programming mode.
fyi - is the old 6 disc unit in good shape? does it work properly? looks fine/no damage or scratches? i'll buy it, let me know! [8D][8D][8D]

RE: 2001 Accord - remote lock
im not too familiar with honda OEM keyless (mines aftermarket) but ive seen on a lot of cars that the controller for the keyless is part of the head unit, and if you remove the head unit there is no security controller... could this be why?

no, on his the keyless entry unit isn't in the radio. it just provides an input to the security control unit. if the keyless entry was working before he changed his radiothen most likely it's the blue wire missing it's ground through the radio.
