Personally, I'd stay away from them.

The 98-02 autos do not have a good rep, or we only hear about the bad ones? If you are trading in four months, dealer did the fluid so they used Honda fluid, try to be easy on it and you should be fine.

lube guard makes several products, most are friction modifiers. fix in a can that you would use is for the most part brake fluid. It swells and softens seals, suppose to fix hard seals.leaking seals etc. the problem is they don't stop working,so the seals can balloon to x2 more more in size & turn into bubblegum.
So in does as advertized for a short while, then makes a mess. it's a bandaid at best

Appreciate all the input guys.

Over the last couple of days the symptom has gone away. Probably not for good, but this is intermittent at best.

As stated, I will try to baby along without adding anything to the tranny and then look to trade sometime after the first.

Do you guys know if Honda changed their transmissions with the body style change in 03 and 08, 12?

I know the trans was "changed" for the '03 models. As, I think I said, the 98-02's seem to be a bit weak.....

Default Lucas conditioner

Hello, Dont know if you solved your problem yet but I will tell you about my experience with lucas conditioner. I have a 1999 accord that has been one problem after another. I just got the engine all back together and running fine and as I was afraid of, the tranny was weak. I drove it with some slipping, then decided to drain whatever fluid I could and add Lucas conditioner. I cleaned out all the gunk that was accumulated on the magnetic plug ( i can only imagine what is actually still in the tranny). Then added 1 24 oz bottle of lucas conditioner and about 2 1/2 quarts of castrol import trans fluid which stated safe for Honda vehicles. The transformation was amazing. It acted like a new tranny shifting great. However less than 60 miles later the tranny has completely quit. will not shift out of 1st. I can only assume that adding the Lucas was a no no.
I am not into rebuilding trannies so off to the tranny shop it will go. I have quotes of $1200.00 to $2200.00. I could go used JDM but those are $700-$1200.00 then you still have to have it installed and no real warranty. Just going to bite the bullet and have mine rebuilt by a pro.

Hey, these guys are talking tech stuff way over my head. My question would be, what kind of fluid change did the dealership do at 120,000? Dealerships have a bad rap. Did they really just drain and put back 3 gts and charge you for the three time flush? My transmission had 191,000 miles without a single trans fluid change. I was having real trouble with the change between 1st & 2nd. When I finally did the Z1 change (the three drain method) I could not believe the difference in the change between 1st and 2nd gear. Invest $65.00 to $100.00 in Z1 and change the fluid 3 times and see what happens.
