Default 2002 Honda Trans engaging into drive gear slowly

Need diagnostic assistance regarding auto transmission not engaging into drive gear smoothly. Tranny is very slow to engage into drive gear on cool mornings. Gets worse when the weather is colder.
I can hear a click when the shifter is moved into forward/drive gear? Vehicle also shifts slowly while driving down the road and usually goes into neutral a few times while driving afterwards.
Takes a few minutes for this to go away. Drives and shifts really good after the fluid has warmed up. This trans was recently installed by a local trans shop back in August 2021.

Thanks in advance!

If the transmission is under warranty, call the shop that installed it.

Have you done any work on the car recently?

Is the check engine light turning on or the D4 light flashing? Regardless, I would scan for codes and post them on here. Most parts stores do this as a free service.

Changing the transmission fluid is a cheap shot at fixing the transmission. You drain about 3 quarts, refill, then drive through all the gears to circulate (maybe drive for an hour to mix). Repeat 2 more times, so 9 qts total to exchange most of the fluid. Honda automatic transmission fluid is recommended.
