2003 Accord - ABS Light
#12
I pulled things back apart this evening. I found some bits of plastic debris from drilling. I cleaned it out as best as possible and put the sensor back in. The light remained on, even after I pulled the battery for a few minutes. so I took it back to read the error codes and had two errors pop up.
13-1 front left wheel speed sensor short or open, and 22-1 left front pulsar malfunction.
I don't know if the 13-1 indicates the new sensor is now damaged too, or if that is now driven by something else. the pulsar malfunction sounds like the magnetic ring mentioned earlier.
I'm wondering if these codes are from the initial ride I took the car on. I'm thinking of trying to clear the codes and than see what it does. Do you know how to clear the codes, or does that have to be done with a code reader?
thanks!

any ideas on how to get it out thought the sensor hole? I used vaccum, air compressor.... brake cleaner? I'll give that a shot, but I assume you have to reset the codes afterwards, or do they automatically reset?

Even grease or other debris shouldn't be covering the magnetic encoder. As previously mentioned, the encoder is part of the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
Scanners with the ability to read Honda ABS/SRS codes can clear the trouble code(s). The car does have a self-diagnosis when the ignition is initially turned on and does another self-diagnosis while running. Once a problem has been detected, the trouble code is memorized (in the non-volatile memory) even if the light may go off. If the ABS system is OK, the light should go off.
The memorized trouble codes are not cleared when the battery is disconnected, the ignition switch is turned OFF, or if the system returns to normal.

thanks... so if I still have the error, I guess something is still wrong. not sure what else to clean it with, but I'll give it another go. do you think I need to replace the wheel sensor again, since I was given that error again?
