2003 Accord LX Electrical Problems
#11
I removed the positive wire from the alternator a few days ago and tested the starter. With battery fully charged the starter was still cranking slow and voltage dropped to 7.2v when cranking. I ordered a new TYC starter, they have mixed reviews but good reviews for Honda. TYC are rebranded and according to documentation, it is a Mitsubi brand made by Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi America makes Honda OEM starters but these are made at Mitsubishi's China plant. The documentation in the box was a test report and lifetime warranty.
Got delivery from Rock Auto yesterday and replaced the alternator and new starter today. No electrical problems and everything is working as it should. Alternator is putting out 14.4v charging. Starter wasn't too bad of a job. Putting a new hose on the air box and throttle body was more frustrating than the starter.
