2003 accord - power steering hose broken
#11
I paid $95 for an OEM hose, from an online dealership, and changed it myself. It's not easy, mainly because of where it is. The metal part of the hose is held on to the frame cross member by two brackets, and the metal part also goes through the rear engine mount. As the metal part is so long, and there is limited space, there is no easy way to get the new hose in, without either bending the metal part enough so you can wiggle it through the engine mount, or use a jack to support the engine, and unbolt the mount and pull the metal part out from under it. The official way to change the hose, is to unbolt the mount, but I used the bend and wiggle method. There is also a pressure sensor attached to the metal part. Since the hose is impossible to see from under the car, you have to do all this lying down on top of the engine, and reaching down all the way to the frame. If you love a challenge, this is a good job for you, Haha.

I am having a hard time removing the high pressure power steering line on my 2003 Honda Accord EX 4 cylinder engine. The flare nut location is hard to get to. Not sure if I can even hack saw the line off without damaging something else in the process. What I find odd is the new line is a 16mm or 5/8. The one on the car is slightly larger (17mm i think). Should I get a flex head flare nut wrench to remove this? There is a diagram here https://www.heeltoeauto.com/files/pi...l_bulletin.pdf but they are not specific as to how to remove the flare nut.

Hi,
a few days ago I noticed there is smoke coming out of my car after driving for a while, so I went to my mechanic to check it.
Today he told me my high pressure power steering hose is leaking and I need to replace it.
Cheapest part he found (after making 2 phone calls) is for $155 and labor he says is 2 hours = $120.
I found the hose online here:
RockAuto Parts Catalog
or here for $78
EDELMANN 92157 Steering Pressure Hose | eBay
for considerably cheaper. Can I just get that? I need to save as much as possible as I don't have much extra money and this was unexpected
Also, is there any way I could exchange it myself? He said it is a relatively difficult 2 hour job - and I am not a very technical type, but am willing to learn from some videos/manuals and attempt to do it myself.
Also, he said it might be dangerous - that it could blow up, is that true? Also he told me to check my powersteering liquid every morning and refill it in case it gets lower and that with this way it could last for up to two weeks.
I asked him if there is any way this broken hose could be fixed, he said no, is that true?
Thank you for your time and help, I truly appreciate any insight.
P.S.: My car is a Honda Accord 2003 ex coupe with a v6 3.0.

Alrite fellas, I have a 03 accord ex v4 that needs a hose replacement. Any insight on this from your past experiences?

Have you found the leak on your PS hose?
There are some o-rings that are known to stop holding pressure and can cause a leak too. It is much easier to replace the o-rings if the leak is coming from the connections at the PS pump.

Honda issued a recall on the 7th gen V6 high pressure hose. You can get reimbursed for the repair bill if you paid for the replacement. I got my money back for the $100 hose, but didn't get anything for labor because I changed the hose myself.
