2003 accord using oil
I have a 2003 honda accord.the oil light came on about 3,000 miles after a oil change .I discovered it was almost 3 qts. low. It is a certified car on warranty. We took it back to the dealer and the have been checking it every time we fill up for gas.So now its getting low again and they are saying Honda is telling them that its normal to use oil like that!!!!!! WTF????? The reason we buy Hondas is for the low maitaince. This is our 3rd honda and non used oil like this. So my question is has anybody else had there accord use oil like this????? The car doesnt smoke and the dealer cant find anywear else it might be going.

It sounds like they cheaped out on the $1 crush washer. They are supposed to put a new one on at every oil change. I've heard that you can get better brass ones too, but I don't know where. They are literally $1 from Honda.
The only engine that I've seen that it is normal for it to eat oil like that is the Northstar, and even it only takes a quart to a quart and a half between oil changes.

Check PCV system to be sure it's not pumping oil into the intake system through PCV air intake. This can happen when PCV hose or valve is blocked or restricted. Wrong PCV valve can cause this also.
It could be valve stem seals leaking enough oil at idle and on shutdown to consume 1/qt per 1000 miles. This is usually a high mileage problem, but worth checking. You should see some oil smoke after a pro-longed idle w/ fully warmed engine, or oil smoke on first startup after shutdown of a fully warmed engine. Valve stem seals can be replaced.
Or it could be leaking, but I would have thought Honda would at least check for leaks. Have you looked for oil leaks?
Has the car received regular oil changes and other services?
good luck

They say theve checked everything. It only has 82,000 miles on it.We cant smell any oil burning or dripping anywear.Ive been behind her and never seen it smoke either. I will check those areas mentioned.Wife wants to sell or trade in but weve only had it 6months or so. We will take it in the a$$ if we do that....

I have a buddy that has the same problem. His is a 4cyl, and it uses a quart every 1K miles or so.
Doesn't seem to smoke that we can tell, just uses oil. No leaks either... Wonder if this is common
for this gen Accord???

It is not normal at all for that much consumption with the 2.4l. The dealer will have to do a lot better than that! Call Honda customer service and explain the situation.

That is NOT normal. I've been doing 7000-mile oil changes in the 2003 (4-cyl) and it doesnt use oil.
Check the antifreeze in the radiator (not just in the reservoir). Any oil getting in there?

RE: 2003 accord using oil
My 2003 Accord EX with the 2.4 started using oil around 80K miles. About 3K miles after an oil change the oil light started flashing. Took back to Honda service center. They checked for leaks and could not find any. They asked me to check the oil level after each gas fill-up. They said according to Honda, 1 quart per 1K miles is acceptible usage. If the usage exceeds that, they will check into it more. It doesn't seem normal to me for a car to do this, especially when the problem seemed to appear suddenly.
