2004--Horn "Misses"
Sometimes my horn doesn't go off on the 1st or 2nd "hit". It may take several to get it going, but then its OK. Not a good thing when the nut-case next to me is wandering into my lane and I'm banging onthe wheel with no sound. I suspect the contacts are corrodedinside the steering wheelbut it may be the relay. I have the Helm service manual but I'm hesitant to start taking the steering wheel apart with the airbag and SRS wiring. I can't find any recall or TSB info on this. Any advice?

I have a similar problem ..... my horn only works if you press the H and it seems to be getting worse ...... thinking about having the dealer install a new horn switch.

If you are at all mechanically inclined then I would say go for it and just replace and/or clean it. Just make certain you disconnect your battery and then there is no way for that airbag to go off.

I'm sure that I could, just that I really don't want to touch the SRS system. If I decide to do it, how do I remove the horn? Just pull? That's how my old Z24 was, but that didn't have airbags.

I went home last nite and went thru my Helm manual. There are about 7 pages of detailed diagrams, test procedures, and removal/installation instructions for the horn and cable reel. They are cross-referenced between body electrical, steering, and SRS since the airbag has to be removed. (You gotta love Helm!).
Not overly complicated but a pain since you have to remove the steering wheel, etc. I'll probably wait until the horn doesn't work more than it does. Based on what I read, I would NOT recommend disassembling components without some type of repair manual.

Fenix: Only because you can get a ticket for honking in the city! In NJ, I have to use my horn all of the time to keep from getting hit since nobody knows the roads or construction patterns! Also, it's fun to see people freak out when I blast them with dual 14" air horns!
