it depends on the scantool. the honda scantool does anything you want, it's awesome although sometimes slow and cranky.

it won't hurt anything and like you said it my cause fuel economy to drop. i'd order it and use a honda part. the good news is you can unscrew the sensor and replace it quickly, just be sure to leave the radiator cap installed. this will cause a vacuum in the cooling system and drain it from the overflow bottle, so be quick and you won't need to drain the radiator, just replace it the sensor and top off the overflow bottle(fyi - less than a 1/4 cup drains out on me, i'm cool like that!)

Just ordered the sensor from Honda today....I checked the resistance on the sensor in the radiator tank and it read .60 ohms.......Does this show any indication that the sensor is indeed faulty? Hopefully the sensor comes on on Tuesday morning as they said so I can change it out immediatley..........

when you checked that resistance was the engine fully warmed up or completely cold? or somewhere in between...warm?

either way, .6 ohm is VERY low, it indicates a near short in the sensor.

The car had been driven 10 minutes and then sat for 2 hrs. before I checked the sensor..........I ended up draining the coolant and pulling the thing out so I can match it up with one from Honda when it comes in........I did check it again later and it read .70 ohms...

honda doesn't specify a sensor test, it's bascially if it codes, clear it, if it recodes, replace it. they used to have a resistance chartwith different ohm specs related to temperature on older models but don't have one listed for 03-07 models. i'm not sure what the spec is for that sensor. good luck.
