Default 2005 Accord. Battery died, now radio doesn't work.

The battery died in our car, and we got a new one but the radio doesn't work now. The dealership was not helpful. Any ideas on what to do to fix it?

Is the radio asking for a code?

Yeah. They acted like they didn't know the code or how to get it..kind of sketchy if you ask me.

The dealership should easily have been able to get it for you with proof of ownership.

You can retrieve it via the American Honda website if Honda has your info.
https://radio-navicode.honda.com/

But, first, look in the glove box, there may a radio serial number sticker in there, see attached pic. Some dealers will put the code number along with the serial number sticker there. Also, look in your owner's manual package, if you have it, the card with the code may be in there.

If the website won't give you the info., you can call American Honda on weekdays or try the dealership again (with someone else). If the dealership has an Express Service, try them, those guys sometimes are more accommodating.

Does the radio code go with the head unit or the vehicle?

Pretty sure the code goes with the head unit.....I know it did with the older ones (5th gens) as I once had the radio from the 95 in a different car (3rd gen) for some time and when I wired it up I was able to enter the code and it worked. Then once I get a new radio for the 3rd gen swapped everything back.

you'll need to get the code from Honda as explained above or on the sticky in the Audio section. the Code is specific to the head unit but linked to the car via the VIN.

course, it's an easy swap for an aftermarket.
