Default 2005 Accord Cruise Control

My 2005 Accord's cruise control also went out. The main "on" light goes on, as does the second light next to it that goes on when you try to engage it, but it just doesn't engage and maintain speed. The Honda dealer wants to replace the throttle body for $500, but I'd like to find a cheaper solution. Any suggestions? Could it be the vacuum hoses or the throttle body needs cleaning or ?

Don't post a new problem on an existing thread. It doesn't get best response and confuses in long run.

I just went throught my 2003-2007 shop manual and found no description of cruise control system.

Do you see a cruise control vacuum actuator?

I did see that throttle plate is electronically actuated by wire from ECM; ie no throttle cable from gas pedal to throttle plate.

This would suggest your fault could be a failed throttle actuator since it would likely be used to actuate throttle when other conditions are met; speed, cruise control commanded, brake light circuit open.

Maybe someone else knows more about these late model cruise control systems.

good luck

I'm pretty sure the motorized throttle does NOT have a vacuum actuator for the cruise. The cruise control works by having the ECU command the throttle electrically.

There is a vacuum actuator on 03-05 models. I found it under "Engine Electrical".

There are a number of checks of the system in the manual. I would first check that vacuum line is intact and delivering vacuum to actuator. Actuator is on firewall on pax side up high under cowl lip.

You need a shop manual. Check automanualsource.com for an emanual at $21.99. These are OEM manuals that are easy to use (searchable and good linked menus).

good luck

Just me but isn't this the gen where the "plastic" connector for the cables on the tb break.....again just me and bad memory.

OP- Can you look/inspect the tb where the cables connect and confirm that the "spool" is intact?

I would also like to know more info on this situation, my cruise keeps going out on me while driving- but now is dead in the driveway supposedly due to a bad ECU. A new ECU is getting flashed over tomorrow from the nearest dealer. BTW, mine's a 2003 Honda Accord LX 2.4L Vtec almost if not identical to the 2005 model.

ECU = Engine Control Unit. There are other names used as well. Basically this is the computer for the car.

Can you give us some details of the issue you are having? Jumping to the ECU is usually one of the last things you would replace and then only after testing everything.

Just noticed several posts above from this thread. Here's some clarification regarding whether or not the car has a cruise control actuator cable on the throttle body.

2003 -2005 4 cylinder Accords did not have drive-by-wire throttle system; so, it has a cruise control actuator cable on the throttle body.

2006 - current 4 cylinder Accords were drive-by-wire and did not have the cruise control actuator cable on the throttle body.

2003 - current 6 cylinder Accords were drive-by-wire and did not have the cruise control actuator cable on the throttle body.
