I was thinking a little more about what to also include as part of your quick check.
Also check the coolant level, even though the mechanic changed the thermostat and should have refilled the radiator, check the level regardless.
You may want to also check the cleanliness and tightness of the connector for ECT sensor 1, which appears to be located near the EGR valve.
ECT sensor 2 for the 4 cylinder is located at the bottom of the radiator.
