Most of the new Honda models have both a MAP and MAF sensor.

Does the electric motor assist the gas engine at all times?
My gas mileage has been reducing over the years. I now have 75000 miles.
It use to get, when new, about 31 mpg and now it's about 26 mpg.
If so, are the batteries loosing voltage, or what could be happening?
Thanks

The electric motor only kicks in when the gas engine reaches the normal operating temperature. (That's when the eco mode and auto stop features can be activated.) For that reason, you get much worse mileage, as I do, if you drive short distances in the winter.
Try putting in some seafoam. I've applied that and it did increase my mileage by 2-3 mpg in city.

Seafoam is a solvent product that you can use a couple different ways...
- Pour into gas tank like fuel injector cleaner.
- Suck into a vacuum hose to clean the combustion chamber
Stores like AutoZone probably have it.

Hybrid batteries V6 Accord, 2006
Couldn't figure out how to place a new question in the Forum, so here is a reply to an unrelated issue.
If the batteries go dead is the car still driveable with the gas engine?
My gut feeling is yes since the electric motor is a booster.
Also, any idea the cost of a set of batteries?
thanks for any help in this regards.

Accord V6 Hybrid
I have 110,000 miles and all works well.Had the timing belt replaced and rollers. All looked new. What can I expect in future failures especially the batteries. What do batteries cost?
It has been and is a great car.
Ciao

Do you mean the instantaneous mileage or the tank average? A drop from 30-24 for tank average would certainly be an issue. Changes in instantaneous mileage are highly variable and difficult to compare.
Note, fuel flow is likely determined from MAF calculated air flow. If MAF sensor was cleaned it would likely result in increased detected air flow and perceived fuel consumption. The 30 mpg may have been faulty in first place.
For discussion of fuel flow determination see following link:
Fuel Consumption Sensing - Automotive electrical & sensor engineering - Eng-Tips
You can also download the Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) which may indicate a change that would increase fuel consumption (+ LTFT). Most new scanners willl provide LTFT. LTFT above 10% would be something to investigate. A check engine light will be set when LTFT gets very large (> 25%).
Hybrid operation really complicates the issue. Perhaps a faiing battery would increase fuel consumption due to more reliance on engine rather than battery.
good luck
