2008 Accord EX-L (v6) oil change intervals:
I was reading some of the posts about oil/filter change intervals and I guess I'm old school but I've always changed our oil at 3000-3500 miles on all of our cars, not just Accords. I noticed that this '08 Accord has an oil % on the dash that shows how long it will last. I'd like to switch to Castrol Syntec 5w-20 for our first oil change. The car has 11,600 on it right now and we just bought it and oil life is at 100%. It was a certified car and they changed the oil already. Is it true that once you go sythetic that you can't go back to standard oil? A 5q jug (Castrol Syntec) will run me about $19 at Walmart. If I use Syntec I was thinking of pushing the oil change intervals to 4000 miles, but it throws me in a loop when I see 7500, 10,000 miles etc. I don't think I can sleep at night knowing the oil is has that many miles on it.
What is everyone else doing? Just want the car to last a LONG time....

Oil isn't what it used to be 20 years ago. It's way WAY better. I don't think there's any good reason to change as often as 3500 miles.
It's NOT true that you can't go back to petroleum oil. It's NOT true that you have to change at the first oilchange. It's NOT true that you HAVE to wait until xxx miles. (How many other myths are there...?)
The oil-life monitor that Honda uses will keep track of all kinds of things that influence oil life, like how many times you start the engine, temperatures, throttle, all kinds of stuff. But it doesn't actually measure the oil. Nevertheless I like it so I don't have to keep a detailed diary of how many highway miles, how many city miles, etc.
Check out this thread, down towards the end.
