2013 accord v6 automatic question
Hi all. Happy owner of a sweet ride. 2013 accord coupe exl w nav v6.
First I don't know how to drive a manual. This is an automatic but I was pretty stupid with knowing how to use the paddle shifters. Starting to understand it.
I know this is a new CVT transmission. New to me. It feels different of course than my old civic. Here is my question.
When on the highway in traffic sometimes I just coast with my foot off the gas and then splly the break and slow down to a stop or crawl. What I noticed is the car seems to downshift sooner than i would expect and it causes the car to slow down prematurally and not naturally from my forward momentum and it forces me to give it s little gas ot even just keep my foot on thr gas slightly while slowing down in traffic. In my civic I just let off the gas and coast as if I were practically in neutral.
Is this an attribute of the CVT? Am I explaining it enough? When I use the sequential shift mode I can leave the car in a higher gear when slowing down and costing and only downshift when I get really slow. The it feels smoother when I am in the controls.
Thanks for any info for a noob.

Hmm, you know, you right I'm sure. Shows what little I know.
I have found a lot of google posts of people reporting (or complaining) about how it feels like the car downshifts when you are just coasting to a stop.
When I put it in sequential shift mode, I can leave it in a higher gear while coasting to a stop and don't experience any downshift feeling.
I'm pretty much accepting that is just the way it is. With it being new, I'm just curious about how it functions, it runs great, has the power I wanted in the V6. it just behaves a little different than what I was use to on my old civic driving in stop and go traffic.
cheers

After a while you'll probably get used to the downshifting, and realize it's actually saving the brakes from a little wear, by helping to slow the car down. Most times, I don't even notice it in my 03, but the quicker you let off the accelerator, the more quickly it downshifts. If I let off a little slower, it will coast more without downshifting as early. I don't know if your transmission will react the same or not, just giving you what I've learned over 10 years and 106k miles of driving the 03 V6 automatic.
