5-20w too thin?

A Honda dealer in Australia told me that Honda requires 10W-30 oil in their Honda's. Their fuel prices are a lot higher than ours so the MPG decrease must not be much, but it does in the U.S. due to CAFE!!!! It is all about governmental interference!!!

I for one will be using 10W-30 in our Honda at the 2000-2500 mile point and then 10W-30 synthetic at around 5000 miles unless someone can convince me that I should wait until 10,000 miles. Valvoline states I should use their dino, not their synthetic. Honda recommends 10W-30 dino for our lawn mower, but when I changed to 10W-30 synthetic, the engine starts with one easy pull instead of two harder pulls. I know use less fuel too so why should I fight!!!

The Australian Honda dealer and our 1987 Chev. Celebrity 2.5L engine with over 251,000 miles are the other reasons. I changed the sparkplugs a couple of weeks ago (with 60,000 miles on the plugs) and their was no carbon on the ceramic or tip!!!! I still get 31 MPG at 65+ MPH on the highway. I have always used 10W-30 dino with oil/filter changes between 3-4000 miles for the most part (I have detailed log from day one). I don't add oil between changes unless I put around 3500 miles on the oil. Not bad and I have used every brand of oil available at sales prices.

I just use what ever oil honda recommends
