Default 5 Speed Questions

Hello,

My Auto trans blew with no warning on my 97 recently.

I am considering buying a wrecked accord 5 speed and swaping it into my car.

it is going to be a lot of work.

My goal is just to have a long term, reliable, cheap to operate car.

Is the 5 speed a well built transmission?

Besides the clutch, does the 5 speed break often or have any issues I should know about.

I really do not want to do all the work for the swap but I do have the time and tools necessary.

I am not looking to make the car faster, or sportier - I just want to be able to drive it for years to come without problems.

Is the 5 speed going to last for years? Is it worth it for me to swap one in?

Thank you for your help.

As far as I know they are good. Keep the fluid changed.

Sorry about the auto trans.....I saw your post about it...and as you know they are also pretty solid so it is strange it went

I have 150K on mine w/o any problems. The GB shifts as well today as when new. From what I have read, the only problem with the Accords were the automatics, the manuals are bullet prooof. I change my fluid every 60K.

Cool, I spent years in Memphis (~73 to 98 or so).

Well I just bought a complete 95 5 Speed Accord.
Has a bad running engine in it, PO says it has a bad miss. i didn't even try to start it.
He is delivering it to my house in the am.
I paid $350 for it delivered. I live about 2 miles from a scrap yard. I should be able to get about $250 for the car at the yard when i am done with it.
I will pull every part off it that I think I might ever need as spares for my car then junk the rest

So as I right now I have $100 into a 5 speed swap.
I plan on documenting the swap very well and doing a write up as we do not have any onb this board (that I could fine)
There are a couple on other boards but one is missing all the pics and the other that I found is pretty basic.
I am going to start by pulling my motor and trans this Wednesday.

I've heard people say there's something in the board about auto-to-manual swap, but never actually looked for it.

Take pictures & write it up so we can put it into the DIY section.

Don't forget to grab the rear engine mount because the manual one isn't vacuum-operated like your auto.
