Sticking with YOUR BRAND is an old school rule, back in the day, changing oils regularly caused your engine to smoke. Yes todays technology is much better, but I am old school cause I am an old guy.

OLD SCHOOL IS THE WAY TO GO. Never heard of changing oils regularly causing smoke. If you don't change it regularly the engine will smoke.

I have a 97 Accord and on the oil cap it says to use 5w-30. I use Penzoil High Mileage 5w-30 w/ Frams TRT filter.

Good to know. I might start doing my own oil changes then since the dealer will only use their Castrol synthetic blend 5W20 oil. Still would like more feedback on whether I should stick to 5W20 or switch to 5W30.

That's good stuff, although I didn't have that great luck with it. I didn't notice any difference. You should use what you want to.

If the manual says to use 5W30, I would switch to 5W30. Heck, I use 10W30 in both of my Accords (but I am not recommending you do this.) Of course, it rarely gets below 30 here in MS. It is about 70 or 75 outside right now!
