First, I am not trying to run you in circles. I'm one of those that wants to be more than 90 and closer 100% sure of something before replacing parts.

You can "hot wire the pump" several ways, if you do and you are getting drops of fuel in the area I circled, then we are pretty sure the fuel is not being cut off by the float. I too was confused by the sight glass, what I figured out was that it was filling up the bowl before I could jump out and watch it. So it looked empty when in fact it was so full it was above the sight glass....if you know what I mean.

I capped all the open vacuum lines and it ran smoothly. After warm up at 800 rpm I could see droplets (blue circle area) and noted the level in the sight glass which was near the top but I could see the fuel level. I pinched the fuel hose and as the level dropped the visible droplets stopped. I repeated the process about a dozen times with similar results. Being able to control the droplets and the fuel in the crankcase I decided to go ahead and rebuild the float valve. It was pretty easy except getting the float pivot pin out but I was successful without breaking anything. It went back together like a breeze and I adjusted the float level and let it run a while. It's all back together now, no gas in the oil (so far) Everything seems ok except I didn't have time for a test drive so it's too early to proclaim success yet.

When I removed the brass level adjuster it was very loose, I could have unscrewed it with my fingers, I'm pretty sure the o rings were leaking and that was the problem.

Test Drive tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Thanks poorman for your help, the vice grips on the hose was a great suggestion.

GLAD you got it........again sorry for the run around but I/we like to do our best to test things before telling some one to replace/rebuild/ect..........

And I do lean towards the 3rd gen's......so I'm happy to know another one is back on the road (or should be soon)....

PS-once you get the float level set where you like it, borrow some nail polish or something and "paint"/lock the set screw-the top part....should have seen the yellow paint on the screw head.

Again, thumbs up to you

I finally got to do some test drives and it ran excellent however at first I had to increase the idle about a half turn but later it was a bit fast. I'm thinking there was some dislodged crap floating around that may have caused the problem. No more fuel in the oil and it runs. This ordeal has me looking into the Weber 32/36 conversion.

Thanks again poorman for your help
