88 acord lxi oil in air filter box

gonna go for the quik fix and bypass the metal with rubber tubes, should take an hour or so. Just have to find them. Go for a test drive tommorow, but I think the leakdown test is going to happen. I was also talking to a tech and he thinks maybe there might be a sludge problem.

If you have oil vapor coming out of the valve cover with the tube off that goes to air cleaner system you have blowby which is oil getting past the piston rings or something related like a cracked piston.

Alright pretty excited here, ran some qtips throught the coolant portion and oil deposits came out. I am wondering if the fact that the pcv valve thing masked this. Going to stillbypass with rubber tubing and thinking that a coolant flush is in order.any ways here is a pic of the tubes and the qtips. I hope this helps evryone,

Yeah,
I am going to do that leakdown test before the flush, only problem is I won't have any free time for a day or two. I will post results afterward. Again thanks for all the pointers, this forum is a godsend!

The oil control rings are below the compression rings on the piston and a leak down may not show you anything more than a compression test in regard to burning oil. If the compression rings seal you won’t find out anything about the oil control rings and if they leak you would have found that out with a compression tester.

It's possible you won't find out by either method (compression or leakdown). The top 2 rings hold the compression. The lowest ring (oil ring) it's job is to wipe the oil down as the piston travels downwards. It won't be a loss of compression so much as it would allow oil into the combustion chamber.

A cracked piston is the only result that I can see a leak down test might give you some information about oil burning. But if you do a compression test that would show low compression and a tear down would be necessary anyway. If you have blowby oil is getting past the oil control ring which is under the two compression rings or the piston is damaged.
