89 Accord ECT wireharness
Problem: Check engine light on with a code 6. I noticed the wires on the TW Sensor, or ECT sensor, were cracked and barley connected, now not connected at all.
Help: Looking for a way to test each sensor and the wire harness. I have the Volt meter just not sure what range I should be checking for from each. Also maybe a replacement wire harness, cant seem to find any.
Let me start from the beginning. While driving my thermostat case rusted out causing all my coolant to drain out rapidly. *Note before this, the car ran fine with no check engine light on. After searching the web I came across a replacement thermostat case, not housing. Once I received the new part I noticed that it was missing a place for one of the sensors. What I ended up doing was pulling the original off the car and tapping to thread a pipe into it. Which worked fine. After getting the car back together making sure to bleed all air out of the system. I'm now getting check engine light code 6 That's when I noticed the bad wires on the TW SENSOR. The connector is now completely disconnected from the wires. I tried searching for a way to test each sensor located on the thermostat case and the wires but no luck. Also maybe a replacement wire harness. * I think the sensor might be bad but would like to verify it before spending $60 to find out its not.

Based upon your description, I'll guess your 89 is Fuel Injected.
Can you take a pic of the area. There are two sensors (one is the ECT then other for the fans) pretty close to each other.....one is/was white plastic the other is green.
If the wires are not connected to the ECT then that is why the code/CEL is on. I'd snip the connector of another FI 3rd gen in a bone yard and splice it in and see what you have from there.

Spliced in the new connector
Thanks for your help. Yes the car is Fuel Injected. I went and picked up a connector and splice them together. The CEL is still on after disconnecting the battery for 10 min. Here is a pic of what I'm working with...

Came across this and if correct I may have found the problem. When checking the green/yellow to ground I get 2.86 volts. After then checking green/yellow to green/white I get 2.86 volts also. Is this a good range or should it be 5v? If so does this mean a bad ECU?

Thank you for the suggestions. Got the pinch connector off with the little help of a screw driver. Warmed up the engine until the radiator fans cycled. Checked the resistance of the coolant temperature sensor and got right at 200 ohms. Manual says it should measure 200-400 ohms. So it should be OK. Moving down the troubleshooting chart...a voltage check of the yel/grn wire of the connector to ground with the ignition switch on is 5V. Checking the voltage across the connector yel/grn to grn/wht also 5V. Last step says to replace with known-good ECU...which I don't have. Does this mean the ECU is bad?

Pull the wire side of the connector off.
With the engine cold, what is the resistnace between the two pins on the switch....the switch is a "resistor" of sorts....meaning the resistance changes as the coolant heats up...or cools.

Checked Resistance
The Resistance of the 2 pins on the switch cold or hot show nothing. When touching the pins with the voltage meter it shows scattered series of numbers different every time. At this point I believe the sensor is bad but no luck finding a replacement sensor online. Any suggestions?
