I am trying to get a new transmission into my 1989 accord Lxi due to the automatic transmission in it slipping out of gear when hot and I don't want to rebuild the automatic transmission. I found a junk yard 1989 prelude with a 5 speed manual in it and I don't know if it will fit. And if it does fit will it be direct or will there need to be some cables ordered as well. I know the basic im going to have to cut the console and such for it to fit the shifter **** but besides that what would I be looking at?

You'll need more parts than you realize to swap to a manual transmission. It is doable, but do your homework before purchasing a manual transmission. Your accord is over 30 years old, so the information about the details for this specific swap may be harder to find.

The easiest repair is to find the same AT and swap it. Look on car-part.com for used transmissions that match your car in your area. You may want to just price a rebuilt 89 accord transmission to gauge the cost.

 

Or you could just sell me your accord, would rather have an SEI but nothing shabby about an lxi
