'90 Coupe: Poor Performance, Poor MPG. Help!
Hey there -
I just bought a '90 Coupe with 265k. It's an auto.
It's driving OK, but it's slooooooow. I mean, I'd expected better from a 2.2 motor in a light car; acceleration is very poor, though it cruises well. Added to that, I've just done my first 200 miles and it's averaged 23-24 mpg, mostly done on the highway at 65-70mph.
Is this a normal mileage? Seems low to me. The car's in good mechanical condition, and just passed California smog easily. It's always been maintained and I got it from the 1st owner. It starts 1st time, and idles well, maybe a TINY bit rough.
If anyone has any ideas on what to check, please let me know. I suspected the cat, but should be OK if it's just smogged, right?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!
Bruce
