90 heater quit working...just as winter hit
ok so i live in wisconsin and it gets pretty crappy here in the winter so i got a 90 honda accord to drive around as sort of a beater for the winter months till i can take my civic out. well this car was my girlfriends car untill her parents bought her a new jetta. she had the car for a few years and there was nothing wrong with it. so i was driving through this bad snow storm we got the other day when all of a sudden the heater stopped blowing... i checked all the fuses and they all seem to be intact. i dont know what else could be wrong with it?!?! any help would be apperiated as i cant drive my car when theres frost on the windows cuz it wont ever get off. and the fact that it gets below zero realllllllll soon..... HELP ME!!! haha

welcome to the forum! When you turn on the heater does it blow even cold air? Any fan at all? If you switch it to cold air will it blow? does the blower motor appear to be coming on at all?

there is basically no blower at all....its on the highest setting. i did notice it making a wierd noise before it quit working. the air will heat up and will blow out a little.... granted that it is on the highest setting. i tried leaving work lastnight and ended up leaving the car there and walking because there was no way to keep the windows defrosted. i went back today in the day time and drove it back home and checked the fuses under the hood and by the drivers side feet. they all seemed intact. its like the blower qiut working or something....its just a slight breeze that comes out...after running its warm enought to unthaw a slight ridge on the bottom of the windshield.

If the blower won't even blow cold air then chances are it's your blower motor that went out.... www.spaldings.com a junk yard in washington state that sells good stuff, look them up and I'll get you can get it for fairly cheap

it blows cold and hot.... just not hard... its like a breeze.... i dunno i suppose it could just be heat from the motor? its kinda hard to measure if its blowing cold air when its 20 degrees out lol i wasnt worried about the cold part. anyways... isnt replacing the heater core going to involve removing the whole dash and stuff... i have no heated garage or anything so... i dont think htats really an option unless i plan on freezing my *** off outside... as i have no garage. its like no matter what setting its on theres just a slight breeze.... i thought maybe when i pulled the cd player out maybe i dissconnected something? i dunno... i'm hoping this isnt to big of a deal... isnt sounding like it tho

if it's blowing at all then it may simply be the blower motor resistor... it's located under the dash on/around the blower motor itself (under the glove box) Here's a diagram for troubleshooting the blowermotor resistor (this is for a 91 accord but I believe it's the same for yours) And I highly doubt it's the heater core at all... the reason I was asking if it blows cold air is to determine if it's the motor itself, the resistor or something else, but it sounds like it's turning on and blowing a little bit..... Does it blow that small breeze no matter what setting it's on? if that's the case then it probably is the motor otherwise I'd say it the resistor.... so answer these questions
Does it EVER blow hard? (hot or cold)
Does the fan speed change when you select a different speed?
Is it on no matter what speed you select but always slow/light?
Does it blow lightly on certain settings but not others?

Heres the answers... i dont think i'm gonna like it...lol
Does it EVER blow hard? (hot or cold) no never blows hard
Does the fan speed change when you select a different speed? nope
Is it on no matter what speed you select but always slow/light? possibly...i'm pretty sure it is
Does it blow lightly on certain settings but not others? it blows the same for almost all settings... i havent tried completly off... but just a slight breeze.
i was hoping it wouldnt be the blower... but thats what its comming down to i think... its gonna be kinda a b*tch to replace it to isnt it?

I'm thinking it's the blower motor but before you go throwing money at it I'd check the relay first (see attachment) if that doesn't do anything then chances are it is the motor, to replace that you pull the glove box then remove the motor etc and replace it (not that difficult really) If you don't want to do it yourself just call a shop and ask for a quote
