91 Accord EX Shift Solenoids
Hi Everybody...I'm new here but have owned my Accord for 5 years with no real problems...until now. I bought the car with a bad ATCU (according to the dealer). Bought a new one for $650! It was fine for a few years but the flashing "S" light and 2nd gear and fourth gear only problem has returned. I sent the computer out to ECMs To Go in Texas (great guys!) and they checked it out with no charge. They say it's fine and maybe the problem is with the shift solenoids. Anybody ever replaced these? Easy to get to and there are 2 of them. One for "lock up" (upper) and the other is simply called the AT solenoid (lower). $150 and $103 respectively.
Any ideas? Anybody ever changed these?
Thanks for your help,
Dan

RE: 91 Accord EX Shift Solenoids
ok ..lets do this again,,at top of tranny below top rad hose is where the lock up and shift solenoids are, first off make sure the connections are ok, the wiring is ok,, if ok,, remove the solenoids 10mm bolts,, there is a metal screen ( filter ) make sure it does not have any metal ,,if it does something is coming apart inside,, clean screen, spray acrb clean and blow compressed air in the passages, put all together and drive car ..
