Ok, thanks. Yes, I changed the fluid twice, cleaning the bolt each time. The fluid was pretty thick and slightly brownish. And the tranny is worse now than before. It'll hardly go into gear at all now. Last trans that went bad on me was in an old Chevy van (Turbo 350). It just starts slipping and that's it. This car acted differently. Oh well, off to get it rebuilt.

BTW, the fluid is checked with engine OFF. FYI.

The 4th generation accord automatic transmissions were pretty solid. You might consider buying a low mileage one at a junkyard. car-part.com can search for parts by price or distance. The cost may be much lower than a rebuild.

As it turns out, you are right. The trans is getting worse. Looks like a rebuild.
My apologize for being a dick.

How do I find the exact model number for my transmission? I have the old tranny that came with the car. All that is wrong with it is it wont go into reverse. I would like to rebuild that trans and fix the reverse gear (and whatever else related to that). Anyone here do tranny rebuilds? This will be my first.

There should be a white tag with 4 letters on it close by the starter or so , like BAXA, BMXA or MDKA something like that. You will need air tools and footpress or hand press tool, they will make your life 100 times easier if you are going to rebuild it.

[quote=DragonHeart335;249908] BTW, there is no clutch "material" in a torque converter. It is a fluid coupling device, all metal.

You guys probably heard of a code PO740 Torque converter clutch malfunction ? Very common in the automatic transmission, or TCC slip or torque converter clutch slip ? Here are the some different type of converter clutch, they have single or double springs lock-up clutch, paper clutch, woven clutch. 90-99 Accord uses clutch type without coast release torque converter. Here are some pictures for you guys ImageShack Album - 4 images
