Default 92 Accord, hesitation between 1500-2000 rpm's

This is the weirdest problem, my car hesitates between 1500-2000 rpm. It doesn't throw any codes, make any weird sounds, blow out any James Bond smoke screens...anything. Other than between 1500-2000, it runs great, shifts smooth (AT), and is as powerful as always (for a bone stock Accord, of course). When driving and the trans shifts from one gear to another, the problem flares up only when in that rpm range. If I keep the rpm's above 2k, then it doesn't flare up.

When it hesitates, if feels like it is studdering, sort of like when you hit the rev limiter and it goes "blat, blat, blat" and it cuts power (but it doesn't make the noise) or how a car drives when you have a bad plug or plug wire.

I have a Honda service manual, but it starts with id'ing the CEL code. The CEL doesn't come on.

So what do you suggest? Thanks guys!

This is classic symptom of partially blocked EGR ports on intake manifold. One or two are blocked and one or two are open. When EGR is function above 1500 rpm and you attempt to accelerate, too much EGR is forced into open ports causing a lean stumble or "flat spot".

Fix is to remove the EGR manifold and clean thoroughly.

Not sure what type of EGR manifold you have, but following link may be applicable.

If you have the plugs in the intake manifold that need to be removed, PM your email address and I'll send a pdf file that shows this procedure.

good luck

Texas Honda is the man! This was the solution to my problem, and I never would have figured it out on my own. Thanks again to Texas Honda and the Honda Accord Forum.
