The secondary ignition system. Can you please explain or give me a starting point...?

Here is the update...

All new OEM plug, wires, cap and rotor. I replaced the one week old igniter with a new one same brand, fortunately the life time O'reillys warrante. Same problem, no start after the car is hot. Will start after part cool down...what a pain in the butt this is!

I might go with a new coil since it is the original 20 years old?

Any thoughts/suggestions on this ignition gremlin?

thanks,
Tim

You can check coil resistance when warm to see if it's out of spec.

I once had a coil that was close to spec, but would not start the car. New coil fixed the problem.

good luck

Are you sure that you are getting no spark to the plugs?

I can't check the no spark condition, no one else home to help.

To check for no spark, is it the same proceedure as pre-digital ignition. Remove spark plug, connect wire, ground to engine block, then turn engine over?

Thanks,
Tim

That is one way to do it. The other is to buy a spark tester, where you dont have to remove a spark plug.

Search for v=9K78XIhhjAQ on youtube for a video on how to diagnose the spark problem.

If you have a timing light, simply hook to spark plug lead and turn engine over while activating timing light. No flash means no spark.

good luck

OK, I managed to find a helper and was able to simulate the no start.

Yes, there is spark but no start. I wait approx 2 minutes and the engine starts. I can simulate exactly the same no start scenario every time.

Before the complete tune up, the engine would require a longer wait time to restart. The symtom now is more predictable.

I did notice the electronic air control valve is not working. Will not increase rpm while turning on and off the A/C.

What can I check for next guys?

Thanks,
Tim

No start w/ spark usually means the fuel pump is not running. Can you hear the fuel pump run for 2-3 secs and go off when you turn keyswitch to On?

If no fuel pump sound, then most likely explanation is Main Fuel Relay fault or fuel pump sticking (try hammering the pump w/ on/off/on/off...).

How did you check spark? Spark at 1-atmosphere may not equal spark at 15 atmospheres inside combustion chamber (much higher resistance due to dense air).

good luck
