92 Accord Starting Issue
Hey all, I have a strange issue...
About two weeks ago, my (second) alternator died (approx. 325K mileage), and subsequently killed the battery and then the car. Towed the car home, replaced the alternator, and recharged the battery. Fired up just like new, and started/drove without any problems until today. When I attempted to start today after it sat for at most 48 hours, I got nothing. No dash lights, clicks, etc. OK dead battery right? So I put the battery on another charge cycle, thinking I killed it again somehow. After getting good ccv after the charge (12.65v), I attempted to start again, and this is where it gets weird. Turn the key to 1, and the dash lights come on. Before turning to 2, if I put my foot on the brake, it kills all the lights, and won't start when turned to 2. If I DON'T put my foot on the brake, and turn it to 2, the same thing happens, dash dies and the car won't turn over. No clicks or anything, like the power is completely lost. This happens when the car is in park, as well as neutral (auto tranny). Before I go ripping out wiring and starter/solenoids, does anyone have any ideas? I haven't tried jumping the car, as I don't have another vehicle to attempt this from.

Sounds like either a bad conncetion on the cables or the battery will not hold under a load. I know you charged the battery and it is putting out the volts but under a load it maybe failing. Check the connections, take the battery to a "good" store and have them test it. Most parts stores will actually give or show you the test results.
