Question 92hondaaccordLXatwill not shift once it is in drive

Our 92 Honda Accord LX AT will not shift after it is put in drive. The lights on the gear display are lighting up strangely, too. Like, when you put it in drive the light remains around "Park" and also lights up around "Drive". If you put it in reverse, the light remains on around DRIVE and lights up around REVERSE. And again, it will not shift into the next gear. It did this once 2 weeks ago as I was driving up a hill. My husband (Gary1963) looked it over, drove it and it was fine, of course. Now, again, 2 weeks later, the wife is driving (me) and it's doing it again. It was driving fine when I left from home this morning, but all the way back home, it ran in this really low gear. Any ideas? (Hubby would be on this forum but the clutch went out in his truck today, too - NOT a Honda.

I would check for engine and transmission codes. In the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum, there is a link to checking engine codes.

This is pretty simple to do.
