93 Accord EX IDLE/AC issues
Hi all nice forums you guys have here. I just resently gotten my hands ona 93 accord ex. I am having one slight problem that I just wanted to run by here to make sure I following the correct path. The car idles fine but when sitting in park idle I can turn on the ac and the car does not stablize the idle. The idle drops and stays there. When I am driving with the AC and stop at a stop sign sometimes it will die. I can stop this by turn off the ac.
For researching it seems that this is the IACV. Am I right in this assumption? Can if possible be cleaned or do I just need to replace it. Or am I totally on the wrong track here.
Thanks all for the help
Eddie

You're on the right track. You could also clean out the throttlebody, adjust the throttle cable so it DOES NOT EVER prevent the throttle from closing completely. Find & fix any vacuum leaks.
There's a procedure for adjusting the "BASE idle" which is not the same as the operating idle.

RE: 93 Accord EX IDLE/AC issues
I assume you just use the spray cleaner for the throttle body? I will take a look at the cable and look for vacuum leaks.
I am however thinking I should go ahead replace the IACV or should cleaning it do the trick?
I will see if I can find the adjustment procedure
Thanks for your help

Clean first and check that idle speed is correct. No need to adjust unless idle speed after cleaning is off.
good luck

RE: 93 Accord EX IDLE/AC issues
I was out driving late night and trying to some things. Ok when the ac turns on the idle does seem to adjust but the idle is a little rougher with the ac on. However the engine did die at a stop sign even without the ac on (it does it alot when you come to a stop with the ac on). So now I am wondering if it is still the IACV.
I am going to attempt to clean it tonight and see what happens. What is the best way to clean it just with carb cleaner?
Thanks again guys for the help.

RE: 93 Accord EX IDLE/AC issues
If you have a D4 light flashing or S light (not sure if 93 has this?) flashing, you need to check for transmission codes, specifically code 1.
The torque converter lock-up could be sticking closed. If the car acts like a manual trans w/ clutch fully engaged as you come to a stop (i.e rpms go towards zero until engine stalls), then this may be your problem.
Make sure IACV is really clean. I found that quite a lot of gunk was in the valve and it took a surprising amount of cleaning to get it all.
It is possible for the EGR to stall the engine (but unusual). This would happen after driving and as you come to a stop, the EGR valve hangs open after being actuated at higher rpm, and overleans the engine leading to stall. You can test this indirectly by disconnecting the vacuum line to the EGR and driving. If this stops the stalling problem, you know the EGR valve is occasionally sticking open. Probably a new EGR valve will be required as they are very difficult to clean, but worth a try since a new valve is very pricey.
good luck

Eventhough the light went off, the code will still be stored in the ECU. Follow the how to check the check engine light on this link and post the code(s) you find. http://www.dhost.info/accordinfo/
