Default 93 Honda warm idling problem

I have a 93 Honda Accord, with carburettor and 1.8 ltr engine. The car starts good from cold (usually after 2 cranks) but if I travel maybe 2 miles then stop the car get out do some shopping for 10 min and come back the car starts but a very low idle causes it to stop. Anyway I get the car running, and it runs good.
This only happens when the engine has been warmed up, if I start the car from cold, stop it and start again - no problem. If I take the car out for long run of maybe 20 minutes - no problem. This only occurs in the short trips. PS recently changed air filter and oil, oil filter (this shouldn't have caused this problem?)

Thanks

Possible choke release problem; not releasing fully as car warms. Suggest cleaning and lubricating choke movement.

good luck

Sure sounds like a choke issue.
2nd approach: try an operational change of morning ritual before working hard on this:
maybe let car warm/idle for 5 min in driveway as you are getting ready 1st thing.

That's a good suggestion - lubricating the carb linkages hasn't helped. This happened again last night, but the choke flap was open to its maximum position. The idle becomes very low then it just dies.

So did the choke go wide open immediately when the engine was cold? Keep looking for problems in the choke linkage. Especially the round drum that drives the choke linkage (bi-metal coil inside).

The flap was closed when cold, but when the car idled off when warm I took the air-cleaner top off and could see the flap was as open as it could go. This problem started when I replaced a very worn air-cleaner element with a new one, so I'm thinking it might be something to do with the air/ fuel mix. Anyway, I'm going to try your suggestion ASAP.

Thanks

Once it's warm, the choke plate is supposed to be completely open. Sounds like your problem is the choke opens up too quickly - before the engine is actually warmed up.

Lots to investigate there. The EGR has probably never been done. I should probably buy a new one.

This will cause this type of symptom(same as a vacuum leak).
OP- Do not put any effort into the egr to solve the issue you are having.

Are the battery and alt good? I ask because I know the 3rd gen carb'd models will "race" rpm's if there is a charging issue.
