Is the milage (odo and trip) still working, does the cruise work when the speedo does not.
Also check for codes in the ECU and TCU.
At the top, Common DIY Threads there is a link to a shop manual that will help with testing the VSS and the wires.

Do you have a Check Engine Light (CEL)? If no CEL, it probably is the speedo circuit board instead of the VSS. Also, a faulty VSS or VSS wiring connection will also cause the cruise control to not work (however, some problems with the cruise control wouldn't always necessarily point to the VSS).

May still be the speedo. As long as your Check Engine Light bulb is not burnt out and you do not have a CEL on, it probably is the speedo. Checking for trouble codes would reveal if there was a VSS problem.
The odometer and trip meter sometimes gets stuck on those Accords, as it was mechanical. Try pushing your car key several times in the maintenance required reset slot on the instrument panel to see if the odometer and trip meter works again.
To recap, if you have a CEL and trouble code indicating the VSS, then it probably is the VSS. Otherwise, this maybe a problem with the circuit board on back of the speedo head, a common problem. Refer to my post and link above if it turns out to be the speedo.

There is a blue Service Check Connector under the passenger side dash that you can jump with a wire to check for trouble codes if your Check Engine Light is on.
See this link for a picture of the connector under the glove box and instructions:
