95 Accord EX sdn in limp mode -- speedo and tranny problems
Hello HAF, it's a pleasure to join the forum, you guys seem like you'll help me treat my baby good. My dad just handed this car down to me after having the 2.2 Vtec engine swapped for one with half the mileage. I picked the car up from the mechanic and as I was driving home, I noticed the D4 light blinking. Later on that same day, I decided to take it around the neighborhood and it wouldn't shift past second gear while on D4. I pulled the shifter down into '2' and tried to shift into 'D3' manually but it only throws the car into neutral. In addition to this, my speedometer is not working (everything else on the instr. cluster is fine).
I took the car to AAMCO earlier today and got the codes. The gentleman over there showed me an 'external diagnostic' sheet with the codes 17, 1, 3, 7, 8, 9, 13, and 14. In addition to this, my check engine light turns on about 2 min into driving after starting the engine.
Will I have to replace the entire transmission or could it be solved with a new VSS, ECU, and/or instrument cluster? I read two threads about cars with similar (but not all) of these symptoms and the solutions in there seem relatively simple and cheap. Aforementioned threads:

Please help, I hate the NYC Public Transportation system!!!

I think that you should check the codes. There is a link to checking engine codes in the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum.
Specify what codes are flashed by the check engine light and by the D4 light.

Just noticed something yesterday. Occassionally my speedometer shoots up from 0 mph to my speed while driving abd I'm able to get into 3rd and 4th when that happens. I just purchased a used instrument cluster today. Should I also buy a VSS and install them both the same day or is there a chance the car might drive normally if I replace solely the gauge cluster? Please let me know before I invest in a VSS. Thanks for the insight
