While I wait for someone to show up to help turn the key, if there is no voltage to the wire, it means...? If there is, it means...? and do I hold red and black probes both to the wire to check? sorry for being such a dolt!

Slow down a bit....this is a forum and people have to take care of "their" issues....my wife just got home from going to the store and someone hit her Pilot in the parking lot and left........I now have a damaged drivers door, just "F" great. Post to come in the "off topic" section soon.

Give me a minute to look up that volt meter - I have one of the same make, not sure of the model.

Anyway - IF you have voltage on the small wire, you get to replace the starter. IF you don't, then the fun begins . More testing to find out where or what is not working (inhibitor switch, starter relay, ign switch, ect).

Sorry.. I was not trying to hurry you, just posting before I have entered what might be pertinent info. Sorry about your wife's car, too!!!! I guess the fun begins because I get no reading on that wire

And I miss read your post about "no one to help" thinking you thought we had left you vs you not having anyone to turn the key as you took measurements.....my bad, sorry.

Next, the red probe to the wire and the black to ground (use the battery ground terminal)

No reading coming through. And I checked the battery again just to make sure I was holding probes in the right place

I looked back at that and I can see how that could have been easily misinterpreted... believe me...I appreciate what you've told me so far and if you have to leave I understand, and would not be a smart-aleck about it

ok...I 'jumped' the starter by running a wire from + post of battery to small plug on starter that we checked a while ago. Started right up! I'm going to try to figure out where the clutch inhibitor switches are and see what they do....or don't

Last time I'll bother you. Your first inclination about the broken plastic was right on. I managed to get a 'dandelion puller' up in there, depress the switch and voila! Now all I have to do is find a replacement of some sort....auto parts houses don't seem to stock these little stoppers. Thanks for leading me in the right direction and again, I'm sorry about your wife's car. I hope there is a special place reserved for people who hit our cars and don't have the guts to stand up for their mistake!!!!

That "stopper" can be had from the dealer for ~$3........46505-SA5-000

Edit: You did not ever "bother me" - again sorry. The wife's car issue "put me off".....there goes 1K in body work, I can't do that kind of work.....give me a timing belt and I'm fine but body work and I have nothing.
