96 Accord No Crank No Start
#11
The key is working as long as you can turn it.
When you try to start the car and the starter doesn't work, listen for a loud click from the engine bay. Also pay attention to the fuel pump prime when you attempt to start the car. You will have to troubleshoot when the problem eventually returns.

twice now the car wouldn't turn over and twice, after pushing that disarm/valet button, it started right up.
somehow someway, this alarm thing has to be tied in with the ignition system. it has to be.
Maybe someone added in a immobilizer after the fact? I just don't get it.
I guess I'll drive to the closest dealership...2hrs away and ask for a replacement transmitter. OR, is it an easy thing to order a universal fob and then program it myself..easily?

I asked on another forum and was told the same....the 1996 honda accord's alarm system does not include an 'immobilizer' or starter interuptus of any kind.
So during the times when the car won't start, is it just coincidence that it does start after pushing that button?
i'm really perplexed.

You'll need to troubleshoot the electrical circuit. Start with the small blk/wht wire to the starter motor. See if you have 12V when an assistant turns the key to start the vehicle.
Did the fuel pump prime and/or did you hear a click from the starter solenoid when it wouldn't start?

thanks but i myself can't do anything auto related; the car could catch fire if i look at it wrong. it will be a while but i have a buddy that will come here at some point and i'll pass on your instructions. thanks
I'd still like to know why pressing that valet button lets the car start.
