Default 96 exv6 cig lighter fuse blown

something in my cig lighter is grounding and blowing the 15 amp fuse under my hood. this makes my ac and my radio go out as well i know its my cig lighter because everytime it jiggles a bit the fuse blows. before, it had been very loose and i have since then stableized it with glue but now it is blowing as soon as i plug it in. i need to know how i can dissassemble my cig ligter so i can fix the problem

Your interior is identical to the 94. Download the shop manual for the 94 from the links posted in the Online Manuals thread in the DIY section.

Does the fuse blow if your remove the coiled part of the lighter?

I'm slow so let me ask a question or two....

What are you plugging in..the fuse, the cig lighter its self (female part) or something into the cig lighter. if it is the last one, are you sure what you are plugging in isn't the issue. Also, there isn't anything inside the "tube", like a penny?

You'll probably have to dismantle enough so you can see what's going on behind the panel. Normally that socket is supposed to be held pretty firmly in place. Something like a bracket might be broken?

And being a 5th gen, getting behind there is a bit of a pain. That is why I wanted to be sure it wasn't something else. Before posting last night I went outside to my 95 and tried to quickly find a way of getting behind there without pulling the center console, we'll did see an easy way-someone else might have something. About the only thing I can say is you can see the +/- wires going to the back of the socket if you pull the ash try....oh wait the 96 had the OBD connector there, so that might not work. Is it a factory radio?
