Default 97 Accord auto no start

Okay, sometimes my car wont start, espesially after driving in hot weather. Theres no cranking sound, just a click and tiny whining kind of noise. I can start it by jumping soleniod and starter, after i do that it starts fine until i drive it and park it. It doesnt happen everytime. My friend thinks its the ignition switch, what are ur thoughts. thnx

It could beignition switch, but have you checked that battery connections are clean and tight. A loose battery cable can cause your symptoms also.

Worn starter contacts cause repeated loud firm "clicks" when the ignition switch is turned to Start. Problem can come/go and seem like jumper cables are making a difference, but problem is worn contacts in the starter solenoid. Only fix is replacement of contacts or solenoid, depending on solenoid design. Some Accord starters are repairable, but I don't know that all are. Check Sherco Auto Supply (googlewill find)forcontacts if you find that is the problem.

good luck

have your friend give the starter a sharp smack while you hold the key in the "crank" position. If the starter starts cranking the contacts are bad.
Ifound several local sources, for new contacts....as low as $18 for the pair
Cheap and easy to replace in ND brand starters, Pic below

I have to add, it only happens in the hot weather, does it make any difference. I was thinking, could be the main relay?
When i turn the key to on, everything works, lights, ac, everything. I can hear the fuel pump starting, but as soon as i try to start it, everything dims(or stops) and nothing, not a sound.

The main relay turns on the fuel pump, and doesn't affect the starter. Since you can hear the fuel pump, the MFR is fine.

If you hear a loud click suspect that the starter needs new contacts/solenoid.

Sounds to me like a battery issue , weak or bad battery,,?? , battery cables clean and tight ??

if cables are ok,, you might want to have the charging system tested ..If all ok.. the starter is step # 2

Turn on the lights, or just the dome light and try to start it. If the light(s) go dim, it's probably battery or battery connections.
If the light(s) stay bright, or flicker slightly, go after the starter brushes or solenoid, or possibly the key switch.

If the starter is turning w/o engaging the flywheel, the engagement system (bendix) may be damaged. This would make a whining sound as the starter turned w/o engaging.

good luck
