97 Accord overheating at idle (cooling fan does not come on)
#11
One wire is black and the other is green.
The coolant level does not appear low but I will try bleeding this system this weekend. If that doesn't work I might pull thermoswitch A and test it in boiling water.
Now that I think about it, this problem could have been going on for a long time now. My drivers side window broke early last winter and, because it was continuously sliding down, as a quick fix I rigged it so that it is permanently up. I planned on fixing that this spring/summer but never ended up bothering as I simply used the AC as a solution to being stuck in a car that doesn't have a functional window. It wasn't really until about a month or two ago that I stopped using the AC and thats about when I first noticed the car overheating while idling for a little while.
Today I threw the AC on as soon as I saw the temperature climb to the halfway point while idling and it dropped fairly quickly back to the normal range.

Quick question - does anyone know generally how high the temperature gauge should read before the fans kick on? I realize that its around 195 degrees, but I'm not really sure exactly where that is on my gauge. Maybe I'll let the thing climb to the 3/4 range before turning it off or putting the AC on later today. The highest I've let the temp gauge reach before intervening since changing the thermostat is just about 1/2 or maybe very slightly above.

My old 95 accord was pretty much the same as your 97. I don't remember the gauge moving much past the normal mark when the fans kicked on.
From the tests that you have done, your new thermoswitch has to be faulty. You do have the proper electrical connector plugged into the sensor.
