Default 97 Accord stumble on acceleration and has Crank Pos CEL

I'm going to try and help a friend that has my old 97 Accord EX 2.2. It stumbles, sometimes stalling, going up hills or under hard acceleration. He had a CEL, so he when to autozone and they told him it was a crank shaft position sensor. This sensor is only a year old, so I would not expect it to be bad.

If the timing belt jumped a tooth, could this cause the sensor to throw a code and the engine to run like this? I have seen the other treads about the egr port cleaning, but since he has a crank sensor code, I'm thinking it might be timing related. If it is the sensor, and the timing belt is right, can I get swap the sensor out without removing the timing belt? I know I'd have to remove the crank pulley.

It would be nice to have the actual code number - sometimes the "descriptions" of the code(s) from someone else gets confusing.

My friend lost the code, but will get it re-scanned tomorrow. Sorry this is taking so long

No problem - again just want to be sure to try to give proper information and I've learned in the past that getting/going on the "parts store description" of the code might not always be a good idea.

Say there is a bad connection to the sensor...would that alone make the car run poorly, or am I looking at two different problems?

P0335 = crankshaft position sensor low input

Yes, I think that might be caused by a bad connection at the sensor. Down near the crankshaft pulley, the sensor wires run along the back edge of the plastic lower timing cover.

Dirty/loose/corroded pins in that wiring plug? Rock hit the wire & broke through the insulation? Anything like that...

The connector looks fine, and the wiring. Drove it, and it seemed fine. Drove it again, and stared acting up again. Maybe it is a bad sensor. So the sensor itself will make the car run bad?

was it a Honda sensor or a aftermarket one?
