i've seen those special pipe tools for it, but ericthecarguy just took a pipe wrench on the "ball" and it seemed to work, good to know if i end up replacing the whole inner tie rod. thanks!

update. took off the passenger side boot and saw that the inner tr was pretty flimsy, so i replaced it and a new boot.

the squeek is still there! it's whenever there is any tension on the steering system at all. it's coming from the end of the rack and pinion (or at least it sounds like it from underneath). like i said, it's not a metal on metal squeek, just a weird noise. think it could just need a fluid change? the steering itself is perfect, no sticky-ness.

Check the rack tie-downs and restraint. A loose rack might cause the squeaking.

good luck
